01 Sep Irrigation Helps Wildlife Too!
At Rosewood, our longtime motto has been ‘helping gardens thrive’. It’s obvious that when plants get exactly the water they require, it keeps them healthy and vigorous, but thriving gardens involve more than plants. You may not have thought about how irrigation helps wildlife too. Let us explain how!
How does irrigation help wildlife?
All wildlife is part of an ecosystem, and the creatures in your garden are no exception. Mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish and smaller animals like insects all depend on the relationships within their ecosystem for survival. There’s always a food chain where the top predator feeds on something at the next level down, and so on to the bottom of the food chain. And what’s always at the bottom of the food chain? Plants!
So, to begin with, many of the animals in your garden eat plants or plant products. All these creatures depend directly on the vigour and health of those plants. But animals further up the food chain depend on the plant-eaters. For example, a slug eats a tasty leaf, then a hedgehog eats the slug. Or a bee drinks nectar from flowers, then produces honey which can be eaten by larger animals. Everything is interconnected, but when the plants are healthy, all the animals in the ecosystem are healthier too! This is how irrigation helps wildlife too.
Why not do your bit for the wildlife in your garden, and ensure your plants stay healthy?
